Screaming
Eagles June News
We had a great time Rock climbing
and mountain climbing this last month.
Jordan Marquis, a Webelo scout gets the spider man award while Dave Ard
leads the pack for the mountain man award - blind as a bat with a waterfall in
his face he made noteworthy progress up a sheer cliff. After climbing for a
while we headed up the mountain to bag the peak. I have to say, I saw truly awesome Scout Spirit as the boys
topped out on little Si under very poor conditions - justly earning the participants
the Troop 701 mountain man award.
The best laid plans of mice and
men.... With Johns Dump truck on the fritz half way into the Big Bark
fund-raiser, we had our hands full meeting our commitments. We worked long -
many up to 16 hours straight to finish the job. All pre-paid customers were delivered and very professional
landscaping was done by self directed scouts.
When we finished, we had maybe
up to 10 yards left over but no delivery vehicles and a dwindling crew so we
burned up some of the profits and did a good turn for the school - spreading
the bark in their dilapidated planter areas.
We finished off a very long day by thoroughly sweeping their parking lot.
Congratulations to those hard working scouts. Many thanks to the men who participated. We learned a lot about how to do bark and
well probably try this one again.
Suggestions are welcome from anyone but as usual only participants have
complainers rights.
As you all know, I'm quite loath to
alter my schedules and I really have to be pushed into a corner to do so, but
this month all that happened - hence all the confusion and my commensurate
apologies. Major band concerts, Book of Mormon seminars, School Play
Productions and finally Fall City Days took their toll. Our boys and myself are well represented in
these fine activities and our schedule obviously isn't accounted for by the
folks that do these activities - such is life.
By the way Ben Sypher, Myself and a National Guard Soldier carried Flags
and led the Fall City days parade.
OK so much for apologies, where are
we now?
June

June
28-29 ( Canoe camp MANDATORY for SAILING TRIP). If you have a Game
of some kind - let your understudy or that second string guy
have a chance.) Here's the scoop. A lot of us are going
to wild waves on June
28th. We'll meet back at my house @ 7pm
for a leadership barbecue
and sleep over. This will constitute our annual
leadership training. We'll
have the boys back by 5:30pm Saturday night.
Now, for the inevitable guy who wants to make the cameo
appearance, let me
say ahead of time - you're missing the point!
Lets not be picky gospel
diners, I'm sure the Lord wants your boys to have the
main course of
scouting - not just the desert. This time, we will eat dinner,
breakfast &
lunch
as a Troop and the cost is $4 either from your pocket or your
scout
account, due this Tuesday at my house.
July
