Parent Scouting Orientation Notes:

·       Scouting: Inspired by God. Priesthood laboratory. Zion’s Camp. Where the real impact happens. What are the underlying goals. Campfires and the burning bush.

·       Activities with a purpose – not a babysitting service to entertain the youth for a few hours.

·       Service: Teaching selflessness, Building of the brotherhood.

·       Trail psychology: Safety, teaching care for others, boosting self-esteem.

·       Uniform: A scout that looks like a team member acts like a team member.

·       Safety/risk balance:  Bring ‘em back alive and well our top priority.

·       Outdoors Comfort: Teach – then implement.

·       Outdoor Challenges: Overcoming self-imposed limitations, Stretching is a requite for all activities.

·       Controlled stress is a catalyst for change but it takes more than a chamois appearance.

·       Regular activities: Batch processing doesn’t work for boys! “Cats in the cradle” “we are going to have a good time then…” doesn’t work any better for Scoutmasters than it does for Fathers.
